The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) is the world’s leading supporter of Type 1 diabetes research. Each year it stages the ‘JDRF One Walk’ – the largest type 1 diabetes fundraising event of its kind – and in 2016 Insurance Advisernet will be represented in more ways than one.

On 9 October, IA Authorised Representative Simon Feldman of Sound Insurance Services in Melbourne, will be walking on behalf of his daughter Hayley, who was diagnosed in October 2014 with Type 1 diabetes when she was just 11 years old.

“When Hayley was diagnosed, it was a major shock and a huge adjustment for her and our family,” Simon explained recently. “Hayley has to inject herself with insulin daily and has to also prick her fingers up to 8 times a day. She’s doing very well, however we need a cure for this disease.”

Simon’s team is called ‘Hayley's Heroes’ and he explains he’s walking for the 120,000 Australians living with Type 1 diabetes. “Our goal is to raise funds to support research to cure, prevent and treat this terrible disease. Approximately 1,825 Australians are diagnosed every year and it’s the most common chronic disease in children. There is no cure.”

To help kick start Simon’s One Walk campaign, the Insurance Advisernet Foundation recently donated $10,000 to ‘Hayley’s Heroes'. He was thrilled to have the support of the Foundation behind his team.

“I am very grateful to Insurance Advisernet for supporting this cause,” he said. “It’s obviously very close to my heart.”
